can't believe i'm still trippin' on this 90s-themed radio station. it's like ganja.. minus the red eyes of course. i'm listening to billy corgan's crooning, belching out words like "despite all my rage i'm still like a rat in a cage" and "jesus was an only son." you gotta love Bullet with Butterfly Wings, you gotta love Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, you gotta love Smashing Pumpkins.
aside from the pumpkins, how the hell can anyone forget REM? michael stipe? yeah, the grandfathers of the 90s sound along with U2. U2 sustained their career in the 90s by having a smash single included in the reality bites soundtrack.
ok another pop quiz: give me top 20 things (anything, an item of clothing, an attitude, music, an event, food, anything) that vividly reminds you of the 90s:
1. nirvana and the death of Kurt Cobain (april 5, 1994)
2. the death of the hairspray-obssessed glam rock bands (skidrow, guns and roses, and all those other big-haired circus performers)
3. generation X syndrome - the no-future-better-to-burn-out-than-fade-away virus that infected almost everyone below 20 years old
4. yuppies with their cartoon character-inspired neckties - young ambitious adults between 21-35 years of age, their aggressive behavior of taking over the corporate world led to the firing of "old" and "un-hip" supervisors and jr. managers.
5. silence of the lambs and dr. hannibal lecter - "well hello clarice..."
6. the philippine power crisis - intermittent brown outs prompted the government to sign onerous contracts we now know today as the PPA
6. the x files - the philippine government didn't know that if they only discovered a way to bottle the sexual tension between fox moulder and dana scully they would have solved the country's power crisis
7. eraserheads and the bandexplosion - no need to explain, they have single-handedly (or is it quadruple-handedly?) changed the landscape of philippine music, not to mention philippine fashion (converse chuck taylors and checkered long-sleeved shirts)
8. mentos - "the freshmaker" was also known as the poprocks of our generation
9. the 1990 earthquake
10. desert storm
11. the rise of MTV and the MTV generation
12. the Simpsons and Beavis and Butthead
13. instant cup noodles - those just-add-hot-water-and-cover food items that redifined our intake of mono sodium glutamate
14. the Usual Suspects, Austin Powers, Braveheart, the Blair Witch Project, and of course Wayne's World (schiwng!)
15. and suddenly Madonna became hot again
16. the Discman was our generation's iPod
17. email? what email? oh, email!
18. cellphone? what cellphone? oh, cellphone!
19. World Aids Day - the red ribbon (suddenly having sex was risky)
20. women empowerment and gay pride - i'm neither a woman nor gay. i still think that they could've done this at any point in history; only in the 90s there was MTV and too much marketing opportunity to let this pass
> how about posting your top 20 list?
i'm out.

Do not tell me you haven't heard of Zooropa (can you spell G-r-a-m-m-y-A-w-a-r-d-W-i-n-n-e-r) or the Batman soundtrack or the AIDS tribute or Gangs of New York or the POP album (ok, ok forget abouth the POP album)?
mikee? yep this has got to be mike. ok ok so i over reacted over U2's supposed dominance of the 90s, my mistake. but that doesn't change the fact that you still got a mickey mouse necktie in your closet. mwihihihihi. *ah yes*
